Georg Philipp Wörlen was born 1886 in Dillingen on the Danube. He attended the School for Arts and Crafts in Nuremberg and studied at the studio of a church painter. He went on to work as a restorer at the studio Altheimer in Regensburg. In 1914 he moved to Marnheim and taught at a middle school. In the First World War, he served at the front, in Romania and France, during which time his son Hanns Egon Wörlen was born. Wörlen was buried alive and wounded twice, and in the final days of the war he was captured by the British army. As a prisoner of war, he became acquainted with Franz Bronstert and Fritz Fuhrken with whom he founded the artists group "Der Fels" (the rock). After his return, he moved to Passau and worked as an art teacher. Together with Franz Bronstert, Fritz Fuhrken and Reinhard Hilker, he founded the artists association "Der Fels" (the rock), they organized more than 30 exhibitions between 1920 and 1927. In 1923 and 1924, he was also a member of the group 6 and between 1927 and 1938 he was a member of the Hagenbund. In 1947, he joined the Donau-Wald-Gruppe (Danube-forest-group). Georg Philipp Wörlen died 1954 in Passau.
