Little is known about the German artist Irmgard Loew (née Steil) except that she was active in the Bauhaus community in the 1920s and married Bauhaus artist Heinz Loew (1903-1981). The Bauhaus art school was founded in 1919 by Walter Gropius with the aim of creating a new "architecture": art and craft should be combined. Legendary were the frequent festivals of the "Bauhäusler", which were always held under a motto for which the students made suitable costumes themselves. Irmgard Loew's cheerful poster designs also correspond to the desire to dress up and celebrate.
