Joseph Floch studied art at the Academy in Vienna. In 1919 he became a member of the Hagenbund, where he regularily exhibited. In 1925 he moved to Paris, where he got back in contact with his close friend from Vienna, the artist Willy Eisenschitz. With Eisenschitz´ help he established himself soon in the French art scene. He exhibited at the famous Galerie Berthe Weill, who had artists like Picasso or Modigliani under contract. In 1941 he emigrated from France to the United States. In New York he built up his new life with his family. Numerous exhibitions in renowned galleries throughout the States as well as various art prices documented his continuing success after the war. "Man is the center of everything" writes Joseph Floch in his diary and states that way the essence of his art. Man with his feelings, wishes, desires, doubts and problems are the center of his work.
