After an artistic apprenticeship with Vojtěch Hynais in Prague, Irene Weineck studied at the Prague Art Academy and School of Applied Arts and took painting lessons with Lothar von Kunowski in Berlin. In 1912 she married Felix Hölzer, a bank official and major, and moved to Vienna. She was a committee member of the Vereinigung bildender Künstlerinnen Österreichs and the Zentralverband bildender Künstler. In the early twenties, Hölzer-Weineck stayed for several years in Harbin, China. Between 1918 and 1953 she exhibited several times at the Vienna Secession. In 1930 she was awarded the Honorary Prize of the City of Vienna. Her works were exhibited in public collections and museums in Austria and other countries. Especially in the interwar period she portrayed many Austrian personalities. Known as a portrait painter, with an expressive style determined by color, she also created impressive landscape paintings, still lifes, etchings as well as bookplates for American collectors.
